From September 2020, the layout of the JC curriculum has been updated. How has it changed?
There are 3 key points:
- The list of 200 concepts (learning objectives) in the curriculum has hardly changed. There are 8 additional concepts to cover the transition from primary school mathematics. Other than that, the rest of the JC curriculum is the same as before.
- These concepts are now grouped into topics that more closely match typical teaching sequences and textbook layouts. For example, "Number Systems" used to contain 15 concepts that covered all learning objectives related to this topic; it has now been divided into 4 topics: "Natural Numbers", "Integers" and "Rational Numbers" and "Irrational Numbers". This more closely matches how teaching and learning happens over 3 years.
- There is now a clear distinction between Ordinary Level topics and Higher Level topics. Each topic is now entirely in OL or HL, there are no longer any mixed topics. This also makes it easier to understand the level of each topic, and makes assignments easier for mixed classes.
