Junior Certificate
At Junior Certificate, in line with the updated curriculum guidance, all 1st-year students start off with the JC Ordinary Level course. This contains 32 topics, which relate to typical chapters in a JC-OL textbook. Each topic contains several concepts (relating to the curriculum learning objectives), and a Topic Quiz which covers all concepts in that topic.
These 32 topics cover all of the Ordinary Level curriculum for Junior Certificate.
Higher Level students also get an additional 16 topics, bringing the total to 48 topics. These additional topics cover the Higher Level curriculum for Junior Certificate. Many of these Higher Level topics also include a quick review quiz of the Ordinary Level content.
Across every topic and concept, there are questions of carefully graded difficulty level. By monitoring the progress of students on these questions over the last 4 years, we have been able to update the check the difficulty levels and sequencing, to ensure students can progress gradually and confidently in each topic.
Once a student is on a course, the content available does not change with their Year. For example, 2nd Year HL students studying Sets will have the same content available to them as 3rd Year HL students studying Sets. It is up to the teacher (or the student) to choose which topics to study.
So, how does BuildUp support and adapt to each individual learner?
Transition Year
The TY course is arranged as a single course to prepare students for the Leaving Cert. It is based on the JC HL course with additional modules to introduce concepts from the LC curriculum. See some suggestions for how BuildUp is commonly used by TY teachers.
So how do I see which concepts are covered at OL, HL and TY levels?
